{"id":180,"date":"2015-07-22T11:10:45","date_gmt":"2015-07-22T16:10:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/designyoursuccess.com\/?p=180"},"modified":"2016-09-26T14:16:53","modified_gmt":"2016-09-26T19:16:53","slug":"monday-morning-blues-or-sunday-night-dread","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging-ucs.com\/tina\/monday-morning-blues-or-sunday-night-dread\/","title":{"rendered":"Monday Morning Blues &#8211; Or Sunday Night Dread?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/designyoursuccess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/STRESSED-WOMAN.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/designyoursuccess.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/STRESSED-WOMAN-300x200.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"wp-image-714 size-medium\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging-ucs.com\/tina\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/STRESSED-WOMAN-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/staging-ucs.com\/tina\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/STRESSED-WOMAN-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/staging-ucs.com\/tina\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/STRESSED-WOMAN-1080x720.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>We\u2019ve all experienced it.<\/strong> \u00a0We get into our offices on Monday morning and <strong>we get a case of the blues.<\/strong> \u00a0We had a good weekend &#8211; maybe visited with family or friends. \u00a0Maybe hunkered down with a good book. \u00a0Perhaps we went to a much-awaited movie, worked in the garden &#8211; <strong>you get the idea.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>So the Monday morning blues take over.<\/strong> \u00a0We get into the routine of the day or worse yet &#8211; <strong>we face the inevitable \u201ccrisis of the moment\u201d<\/strong> that either materialized for real over the weekend or just in someone\u2019s head! \u00a0<strong>We go through the day with no sense of having accomplished anything and the blues continue.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">That\u2019s a negative scenario, right? \u00a0<strong>BUT, what if the Monday Morning Blues evolve into the SUNDAY NIGHT DREAD??<\/strong> \u00a0Your negative emotions can\u2019t even wait until Monday morning to rear their ugly head.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>You know the feeling.<\/strong> \u00a0You are winding down your weekend, squeezing out those last hours and minutes for fun or just keeping up with all you had to do that weekend. \u00a0<strong>The feeling of dread comes over you like a veil<\/strong>, causing you to <strong>feel like you are in a fog<\/strong> and you can\u2019t tell what is ahead of you. \u00a0Your experience tells you <strong>it will be more of the same tomorrow<\/strong> and you don\u2019t want the weekend to end. \u00a0<strong>You can\u2019t sleep or you become restless.<\/strong> \u00a0Reality sets in. <strong>Things get real.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>It doesn\u2019t have to be that way, trust me!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>These feelings you have are trying to tell you something &#8211; but what?<\/strong> \u00a0Can you step back and tell <strong>what\u2019s real and what only feels real?<\/strong> \u00a0What a novel question &#8211; <strong>what only feels real, but isn&#8217;t?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">When we focus on what\u2019s real, things are really happening around us. \u00a0Real things are deadlines, meeting profit projections, making a speech in front of a large audience, reporting out on the progress of a project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The \u201creal\u201d deal issues can involve fires, car accidents, illness in our children or our parents\u2026\u2026this is when things get really real.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>When we focus on what simply \u201cfeels\u201d real &#8211; that\u2019s a different story.<\/strong> \u00a0<strong>We introduce thoughts that direct our behaviors and cause our feelings of stress, dread, and the blues.<\/strong> \u00a0This can happen at work or in our private life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">How does that happen? \u00a0Take this work scenario:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">You have a deadline. \u00a0It\u2019s tight. \u00a0Lots of things have to happen to meet it. \u00a0Many people are counting on you to make it happen. Then your thought process starts going wild:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><em>\u201cI\u2019ll get fired if I don\u2019t meet this deadline.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><em>\u201cI\u2019m dependent on a lot of people to make this happen and they are going to let me down.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><em><strong>\u201cThere is no way we can get this information together in time.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Wow! \u00a0Just writing that made me stressed out &#8211; I can only imagine how you feel if you\u2019re in that position.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>HOW OUR THOUGHTS CONTROL OUR BEHAVIORS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>So, how do you overcome these feelings of stress and dread?<\/strong> \u00a0You have to work at breaking the pattern of your thoughts. \u00a0Not the pattern of the quick pace or the unrealistic expectations &#8211; those may never change. \u00a0Those will probably always exist. \u00a0<strong>The pattern you have to break is your perception of them and the methods you use to respond. \u00a0<em>THIS IS THE ONLY THING YOU CAN CONTROL.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">[Tweet &#8220;You have to work at breaking the pattern of your thoughts so they don&#8217;t control your behaviors.&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">5 TIPS FOR CONTROLLING THE \u201cDREAD\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><strong>ACCEPT HIGH EXPECTATIONS<\/strong> &#8211; In this economy and the competitive nature of all business, there will always be high expectations for achievement. \u00a0Don\u2019t spend your time thinking things will calm down. When they don\u2019t, you will only be disappointed.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><strong>CLARIFY PRIORITIES<\/strong> &#8211; Don\u2019t be afraid to ask for or provide clarification regarding what is needed when. \u00a0When competing priorities exist, this can be very helpful in reducing stress.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><strong>BREAK THINGS DOWN<\/strong> &#8211; Don\u2019t lose sight of the big picture, but don\u2019t let it overwhelm you. \u00a0Small, manageable steps are always effective in reaching the goal.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><strong>DON\u2019T BE A LONER<\/strong> &#8211; You may think the weight of the world is on your shoulders, but it often takes a village to get something accomplished.
